

Now that more than half of all searches on Google don’t even result in a click on a brand’s website, Google properties such as Google Maps have become both useful and essential. When the shift occurs (such as a rampant uptake of mobile after Apple launched the iPhone), Google always seems to be in the right place at the right time. How did that happen? Because Google has an uncanny ability to sense and respond to consumer behavior by launching and constantly updating apps such as Google Maps. I was just going through some blog posts and columns I have written over the years and was struck by how Google Maps had rapidly become an essential tool for “near me” searches on mobile devices years ago. It’s impossible to overstate how important Google Maps is for any business to be found and considered.
